About Katie
Katie Lelito was in grad school to become a neuroscientist and nearly changed her studies to embryology when she was diagnosed with infertility. Although she stuck with neuroscience, she meticulously plotted her estrogen levels, ran linear regressions for the growth rates of all her follicles, she ended up with a degree in infertility, if only in her mind. As a self-diagnosed control freak dealing with a disease beyond her control, she found comfort and focus through advocacy. Armed with a template letter from RESOLVE, Katie made it her mission to get infertility coverage for the University of Michigan. After learning exactly how to make changes in the university from her graduate student union, she finally got the right message to the right people, just in time for her to get a job in another state, a job that didn’t cover infertility.. yet. She sent the same letter to HR, and infertility coverage was added again. Thanks to these efforts, she was able to build her family through infertility treatment and so can thousands of people now and in the future who work at these companies, should they need it. Katie is currently living in Raleigh NC where she works as a science communicator and volunteers for RESOLVE to organize support groups and infertility awareness events.
